Adequate hormone therapy can prevent numerous diseases, while retaining vitality and quality of life until old age.
Every month, Prof. Dr. Svetlana Vujović, examines around 500 patients from our country and from all over the world. She is member of the Board of the International Society of Gynecological Endocrinology, member of the International Menopause Society, lecturer at the most prestigious world universities from the USA, UK, China, Qatar. With her vast knowledge and visionary ideas, she boldly breaks taboos and traces new paths in medicine. One of her goals is to contribute to prolonging human life to 120 years, while still being in perfect shape even in those years.
„My goal is that people from the age of 45 onwards live as well as my patient, who is 95 years old. She is a world-renowned economist and actively holds lectures around the world. She has been receiving hormone therapy for five decades and at the age of 95 she has no health problems, she has a bright mind, she is quick-thinking, and her physical appearance is that of a woman 30 years younger. In addition, she has regular sexual relations with her husband, who is 10 years her junior and is also receiving testosterone. She is a real-life example that one can live differently and that in the age we nowadays consider late, one can live without illness, actively, with quality, with joy, as if we were 30.”
Why don't we live like that already?
„Because there is not enough knowledge, because there are taboos, and I am determined to break them only with knowledge, to show the truth with knowledge and to apply the latest global knowledge here in Serbia. But in order to do this, you must constantly be up to date with the latest trends and achievements, and also know how to recognize and respond when paid studies appear with the aim of showing how hormones are dangerous and have no importance, because hormones are cheap and it is more profitable to sell expensive products”, explains Prof. Vujović.
Changing established models
Among the adaptive mechanisms that defend our body, hormones are the most powerful. When there are enough of them, they trigger immune processes, strengthen the defence against stress, and prevent the occurrence of numerous diseases.
„At the exact moment a myocardial infarction occurs in a man, values of the male sex hormone testosterone are extremely low, while the values of estrogen, the female sex hormone, are enormous. Before me, hardly anyone paid attention to that. I suggested to one of my doctoral students to do a dissertation devoted to this very problem, and through a detailed investigation, we clearly showed that testosterone injections would change the entire cardiovascular system of a man and prevent the occurrence of heart attacks. And why are we not applying this? Well, because the hormone is cheap, and there is immense range of expensive drugs for cardiovascular diseases, which is certainly the priority interest of the pharmaceutical industry.”
When hormones start to decrease after the age of 45, an imbalance occurs that leads to numerous health disorders. It's all preventable.
„Why are people over 50 reluctantly employed today, and why do people say: that woman is depressed, her concentration is poor, she doesn’t sleep well, has a problem with her bones, she broke her hip. Or a man presents with an impotence disorder, and we know that this is the tip of the iceberg because his testosterone is low, and below that are high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, heart attacks, behavioural disorders, etc. Why is this happening? Precisely because of an untreated hormonal disorder and the prejudice that aging is a process that naturally brings diseases. If the beginnings of a disorder are detected and the hormones are properly dosed, a person of 50 will soon be in the shape of a 30-year-old.”
The endocrinologist's task is to recognize the problem on time and correctly determine the dosage of the therapy. This significantly improves the quality of life, extends the working age, prevents the occurrence of numerous diseases, and brings huge savings to the healthcare system. It is also important that hormone therapy has no time limit.
„Who is entitled to tell someone, you can be treated until you are 60?! Who is entitled to tell a woman, you have a one percent chance of giving birth?! Or why didn't you give birth at 18?! I have 3,000 children born from those ‘hopeless couples’”, she points out with joy.
Knowledge as a gift to doctors in Serbia
Prof. Dr. Svetlana Vujović organizes congresses in Serbia in a special way in cooperation with young doctors, trying to ensure that everyone coming from the smaller towns in Serbia has free registration fees.
„I want to give knowledge to our doctors as a gift, to preach knowledge. If a person comes from poorer parts of our Serbia, it is enough to pay for the trip to Belgrade. I always convey only the latest knowledge. My assistant professor or teaching assistant will hold a lecture on a topic that they may be partially familiar with, but they will always receive only the latest ideas and knowledge from me, only what is the world's best in my field at the given moment. We are the doctors of the 21st century and we should do everything to make peoples’ lives better, longer, happier, to see how to improve the characteristics for the glory of mankind.”
Prof. Svetlana Vujović, Ph.D., was awarded the Order of Karađorđe’s Star for the National Day, and she is also the winner of the Captain Miša Anastasijević award for her achievements in the progress of Serbia in the field of medicine.
