I am very encouraged by the fact that the companies’ success presently is measured increasingly and in much detail according to ESG (Environmental - Social - Governance) parameters. When it comes to Hemofarm, we perceive sustainability not only through operations and good business results (which are so important to us), but also by the ways of reducing the consumption of all the resources we use in order to help our planet.
There has been a decade of reporting on sustainability behind Hemofarm, during which we have invested a lot of effort and commitment to contribute to making the world a better place to live in. We have worked and shall keep up working on educating and motivating Hemofarm employees, their families, business partners, consumers and the community so as to understand and apply ESG principles in everyday life. Hemofarm is presently acknowledged as one of the sustainability leaders in Serbia and the region, as well as the strongest link in sustainability in STADA Group.
Hemofarm is a member of the UN Global Compact in Serbia, applies the 10 principles of sustainable development and along with other companies and organizations we are working on making the sustainable development imperative for all companies in Serbia. Within its sustainability principles, Hemofarm promotes and supports respect for human rights, while celebrating diversity and inclusiveness, guaranteeing an environment that enables dignified work.
In Hemofarm’s case, ESG reporting is a process in which we talk about our progress in reducing the footprint in the environmental (Environmental), social environment (Social), as well as the ways of improving the organization management (Governance), year-in year-out. Qualitative and detailed research is carried out for all the three stated areas and the achieved results are compared to previously defined ESG risks and strategies in the preparation of Hemofarm’s annual report.
What I am particularly proud of is the fact that Hemofarm’s corporate culture supports and promotes tolerance, respect, objectivity and fair mutual relations, ensuring equal opportunities for everyone in Hemofarm, rejecting any kind of discrimination and harassment. Such a culture and corporate policies always yield results we can be proud of.
When we say that gender equality has long been a part of everyday life in Hemofarm (women account for the majority of employees - 54.5%, while 64% of leadership positions are held by women), it is not a phrase, but a confirmation of what we do and who we are.
We have been taking care also of our common home, the planet Earth, and have saved electricity and water that Hemofarm consumes within approximately 14 months or 400 business days, on average, by rational use of resources for 10 years.
We have saved 178,995 trees, which is equal to 190 hectares of forest or 242 football fields, by using recycled cardboard for product packaging only over the course of 10 years. In other words, we have preserved a forest territory equivalent to the area of the Belgrade municipality Vračar.
As someone who has been working on the preparation of the Sustainability Report of Hemofarm for ten years, and of STADA Group as of recently, I can say that on the one hand, creating an ESG report can often be a challenging task, but on the other hand, there is a great sense of pride when you see the direction in which the company you work in is developing and how far it has progressed in that period.
Hemofarm belongs to that narrow circle of conscientious and responsible companies that strives to inspire its customers as well as other brands by sustainable products and operations so as to take the path of sustainable development themselves. As a pioneer in sustainability reporting among companies in Serbia, Hemofarm shows responsibility in everything it does, which makes it worthy of the leadership position not only in the pharmaceutical industry but also in sustainable development in Serbia.
