STADA Health Report: Ageing anxiety - 43% of Europeans fear getting older
20. August 2024.
Age is just a number – but is it really? The STADA Health Report 2024 shows that 43 percent of Europeans are afraid of ageing. The fear is even more pronounced among younger adults, with 46 percent of individuals aged 18 to 34 expressing concerns about getting older. The STADA Health Report also highlights a significant gender disparity in ageing anxiety. Women in general are more apprehensive about ageing than men. This trend is most evident among young women, with nearly one in two aged 18 to 34 fearing the prospect of growing older (49).

Among all respondents who are afraid of ageing, their main concern is physical decline (68). 60 percent are afraid of getting an age-related illness such as Parkinsons, Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Almost as many (59) are afraid of becoming a burden to others in old age.

These are the results of the sixth international STADA Health Report 2024, a representative study with over 46,000 respondents from 23 countries. On behalf of STADA Arzneimittel AG, the market research institute Human8 surveyed around 2,000 people each between the ages of 18 and 99 from: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.
