Ten years of Stada Health Report
24. June 2024.
Stada Health Report 2024, with 46,000 respondents from 23 countries including Serbia, is the most comprehensive online international research of its kind within the pharmaceutical industry. The 10th anniversary of dedicated work on this important health project was marked by the Stada corporation in the presence of journalists from numerous countries, at a conference in Rome.

From Germany to the world

For 10 years, the multinational corporation Stada has been organizing public opinion polls of the European population regarding health habits and attitudes towards health. Originally conceived as a national survey in Germany with the aim of gaining better insight into the level of health literacy of the population, the Stada Health Report soon grew into an international online survey, including an increasing number of countries every year, revealing an exciting diversity in opinions, health habits, levels of health literacy, but at the same time numerous similarities between the participating countries.

Thus, from 2014 to date, 188,000 Europeans, aged between 18 and 99, gave an answer, primarily to the question ‘How are you?’. Not avoiding ‘inconvenient’ questions and trying to reveal healthcare issues that are important to overcome, Stada fulfills its purpose and the given promise ‘Caring for people's health as a trusted partner!

Europeans' satisfaction with healthcare systems continues to decline

As of 2021, Stada's survey has recorded a continuous decline in satisfaction with public health systems across Europe, and that trend unfortunately continues. Just before the outbreak of the pandemic, in 2020, the overall satisfaction of Europeans was 74%. In 2022 it already dropped to 64%, in 2023 it dropped to 61%, and today only 56% of Europeans are satisfied with the healthcare system in their country, which is the lowest percentage ever.

Satisfaction has fallen the most in Great Britain, losing 11 percentage points, and in Germany, where the loss is 8 percent, and the main reasons for dissatisfaction are: difficult to reach a specialist, lack of an appointment for an examination or necessary medical interventions (Britain 69%, and Germany, 68%).

72% of Hungarians, 66% of Poles, and 65% of Serbian citizens are also very dissatisfied with the overall situation in healthcare. In contrast, Belgians 85%, Swiss 81% and Dutch 77% are very satisfied with their healthcare systems.

Epidemic of loneliness

Stada Health Report reveals that more than half of Europeans feel lonely. Despite the fact that we live in a world of the Internet, 24-hour news, social networks, technology that allows us unlimited contact and makes us feel more connected than ever, at the same time social isolation and feelings of loneliness are a growing problem around the world

And while it would be expected that the elderly suffer the most from loneliness, the opposite is true. In Europe, young people between the ages of 18 and 35 complain the most, as many as 63%. Stada Health Research reveals that residents of Poland 61%, Finland 60%, Sweden 59% and Slovakia 58% feel the most lonely. In Serbia, the highest number of those who occasionally feel lonely is 35%, and only 4% of them say that they always feel lonely.

The young on the verge of exhaustion

Residents of Denmark 73%, Serbia 72% and Ireland 71% most often report a feeling of burnout. Young people are again in trouble, so the highest percentage of burnout is reported by those aged 18-35. In Serbia, as many as 17% of young people have already experienced burnout, and 27% of them say that they are on the verge of exhaustion. In Denmark, the situation is particularly critical, where even 60% of young people report burnout.

Caring more for your own health

Stada Health Report 2024 reveals that as many as 89% of Europeans now take more active care of their health. Physical exercises are the most popular, but more and more are resorting to a healthy diet, regular intake of supplements, but still an insufficient number respond to preventive examinations, only 33%.

How happy are we?

Although one would expect the inhabitants of Scandinavian countries to be at the top of the happiness scale, Stada's research paints a different picture. While people in Finland 65%, Denmark 67% and Sweden 63% report average or below average levels of individual happiness, the Dutch 80%, the Irish 77%, the French 74% describe themselves as much happier, and the citizens of Serbia are not far behind at 66%, while Germans 56% and Hungarians 53% record a lower degree of individual happiness.

30+ questions - Stada Health Report 2024 additionally asks over 30 questions on other current topics: How much do we trust conventional medicine? What does artificial intelligence bring us? Are we afraid of aging? How important is physical appearance to us? What do we think about plastic surgery? Et cetera.
