Sustainable Development as the Only Chance for Survival
26. January 2023.
For years back, Hemofarm has been breaking production records, while intensively reducing the consumption of electric power and natural gas per finished product unit. Through numerous activities of Hemofarm Foundation, Hemofarm simultaneously cares for local communities and the society in general.

Ever since the launch of Hemofarm’s reporting cycle on its sustainable development ten years ago to date, the company has preserved 190 hectares of forest, equalling the surface area of around 242 football fields.

Hemofarm’s Sustainable Development Report has been prepared in tune with the ‘Global Reporting Initiative’ guidelines, and in the year behind us, Hemofarm managed to push its own boundaries again.

Sanda Savić, Hemofarm’s Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications, has revealed to us in an interview for the ‘Nedeljnik’ why the responsibility that Hemofarm demonstrates in everything it does is conditioned by the leadership position in both pharmaceutical industry and sustainable development.

How significant for Hemofarm is the presentation of the jubilee tenth Sustainable Development Report for 2021?

‘For all of us at Hemofarm, the past ten years have been a decade of success, which is best confirmed by the presentation of the tenth Sustainable Development Report for 2021, under the slogan ‘‘Guardian of a Sustainable Present and a More Certain Future’’. Hemofarm’s Sustainable Development Report shows the real picture of our business operations, and above all how we function within a society, and in the final instance on the only planet that we have.

Hemofarm is particularly proud of the fact that irrespective of performing operations in an extremely demanding environment, it managed to deliver all necessary products to all the markets where STADA Group operates, in the required quantity and the quality that goes without saying. Hemofarm has proven that the sustainable development principles, as our employees use to say, are interwoven in the DNA of the company’, emphasizes Sanda Savić, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Hemofarm.

What are the greatest successes of Hemofarm presented to the public in the jubilee report that you would single out?

‘When it comes to the operations in the post-pandemic year, Hemofarm has continued moving along the upward trajectory of sustainability. Out of 6.6 billion tablets and other forms manufactured by Hemofarm, as much as 89 percent of them have been packed in the packaging material made of recycled cardboard. Hemofarm’s portfolio has been additionally increased by 38 products, and we are still the local and regional market leader in sustainable development and the most determined fighter for people's health.

We have shown in what ways we care for people, their health, as well as for the society in general, but our employees are also in our focus. The fact that almost 50 percent of our employees are the millennials and younger generations makes us very proud. In addition, women make a majority of Hemofarm’s headcount, while more than 60 percent of all management positions are occupied by women. I believe that in the next 10 years as well, we will even more strongly set the standards that we will all be extremely proud of’, Sanda Savić says, adding that Hemofarm kicks-off a new cycle on its sustainable development journey.

Is one of the goals of your investment in sustainable development also to be a role model for other companies to join and give their contribution?

‘Each one of us can give their contribution, and it’s not just a phrase. When exiting your office, be sure not to leave a window open, a heater or a light at your desk on. When you realize how much just a single light, if turned off, can save in terms of natural resources, you start thinking about it and change your own behaviour. The similar thing has just happened to us. We have changed for the better, in the effort to save as many resources and improve as many our processes as possible, but it all starts with people and practically comes down to caring for people.

I would like the Hemofarm’s success to be an inspiration for driving changes on both personal levels, and within other companies that follow our example of doing business, as well as in the entire society. To do something today, to secure a better future for the generations to come’, Sanda Savić, Hemofarm’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications concluded.
