Caring for people and resources yields business success
28. December 2020.
In spite of a continuous production growth, Hemofarm managed to reduce the consumption of energy sources in manufacturing processes in the previous period. Over the course of the last decade while being strongly committed to sustainable development, the company has reduced the consumption of water equalling a year of its average consumption, and preserved about 157 hectares of woods approximating the area of 200 football fields, as emphasized in a just-published Hemofarm’s Sustainable Development Report for 2019.

Hemofarm has released the eight Sustainable Development Report titled ‘Life Wins with Us’ in a row, conveying a message of the company jubilee marking the 60th anniversary – evidencing in practice that caring for people and resources yields good business results.

Considering that companies report on their sustainable development for the preceding business year, Hemofarm has prepared the current report under Coronavirus circumstances, determined to show by the own example how the sustainable development goals have been integrated into the operations of this company in a three year period – 2019 before the pandemic, 2020 during the health crisis, and 2021 hopefully the year of pandemic ending. Hemofarm perceives it as its contribution to the local and global economy enabling others to realize, on the example of a company, the importance of running a sustainable business in everyday operations, especially in the times of crisis.

‘For us at Hemofarm, sustainable development is nothing but a good-host-like business, yet not only in-house, but also community-oriented. We scored numerous business records last year: from the highest production volume and the biggest product range ever to further sales growth. We have recorded an increase in the headcount and almost 27 million euro worth investments in manufacturing equipment and innovative technologies. At the same time, our employees rendered 1,874 hours or 2.5 months of volunteer work. All the above has helped us to face the current pandemic in an efficient and responsible way, showing the significance of the local production of medicinal products and medical devices for the state and citizens in practice, particularly in the time of crisis. Sustainable development equals strong immunity - it is created and boosted in order to keep successfully moving on. It has strengthened and prepared us in Hemofarm well for the pandemic-induced crisis that ensued’, Dr Ronald Seeliger, CEO of Hemofarm, points out.

According to him, people have always been Hemofarm’s priority, but together with the care for citizens and employees, the ‘immunity’ of this business system has been a good starting point for the belief that we will make a significant contribution to the victory of life and safeguarding of health once again, which has been proven throughout the current pandemic.

Several additional Hemofarm’s business indicators in 2019 are presented below:
• Women hold the majority share – as much as 53 percent - in both the headcount of approximately 3,500 employees, and the company management. By all means, women and men in Hemofarm are equally paid for the same jobs they perform.
• Twice as many trainings, educations and professional development, totalling 16,130 hours, were organized for employees, compared to 2018.
• The share of local suppliers accounts for approximately 88 percent.
• About 82 percent of our products were packed in the packaging material made of recycled cardboard (30 million more compared to 2018)
• Hemofarm has its own Ranney wells thus disburdening the public water supply system.
• Fluorescent tubes were replaced with 1,980 new LED lights.
