24. November 2017.
This November, Hemofarm was admitted to membership in the United Nations Global Compact, a worldwide network of socially responsible companies and organisations active in 162 countries which promotes 10 principles on which its initiatives are founded.
As the largest global civil initiative, consisting of more than 9,000 companies and 4,000 non-governmental organisations, the UN Global Compact is before all interested in creating socially-responsible businesses and markets. The Global Compact represents a framework based on which companies undertake to harmonise their activities with the ten universal principles in the field of human rights, labour, environmental protection and anti-corruption.
‘Sustainable development is a story on how to be better in everything we do, how to appreciate more the people we work with and the community we work and live in, how to save resources and protect the environment. The membership in the UN Global Compact is the crown of our five-year business operation in line with the principles of sustainable development’, said Sanda Savić, Director of Hemofarm Corporate Affairs and Communications. She points out that Hemofarm has excelled in implementation of the principles of sustainable development in its business operations for three years in a row, while its role as a socially-responsible entity has been on for decades.
Let us remind you, the Millennium goals have been replaced by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which puts the sustainable development itself high on the list of global priorities. These 17 goals are supposed to link the government, the civil and the business sectors, together with the United Nations, and to harmonise their activities in preserving resources, development of environment, and economic prosperity, through fair business principles.
Speaking of the future plans of Hemofarm in this field, Dušan Stojaković, Manager of Sustainable Development and Corporate Marketing in this company, has announced that the UN Sustainable Development Goals will make an integral part of Hemofarm’s ‘Sustainable Development Policy’. ‘In the achievement of the sustainable development goals, we are especially going to focus on Goal no. 3, which refers to the improvement of people’s health, which in fact is our mission. We are going to continue reporting on our activities in the field of sustainable development and we are doing this guided by the key goal – not to boast of being good, but to inspire others as well to do something positive for the environment they live and work in’.
